Bruce Lee died during the making of Game of Death. He completed all of the fight scenes, which include some of the best of his film career, but elsewhere in the film his place is taken by a dubious character in big sunglasses. Ignore this, though - it’s a good kung fu movie; a fitting tribute to the master of the genre. (more…)

Touted as Jerry Seinfeld’s first major project since the 1998 end of his long-running eponymous TV series, 2007’s computer-animated BEE MOVIE stars the popular comedian as the voice of Barry B. Benson, a young bee eager to explore the world outside of his hive. As he discovers how people live in New York City, he befriends a human florist, Vanessa Bloome (Renee Zellweger), and becomes outraged at the selling of honey, leading to a lawsuit and, of course, plenty of Seinfeldian misadventures. Eun-joo, the stepmother, welcomes two sisters who come back home after recovering their health, but Su-mi, the elder sister, intentionally avoids her and Su-yeon, the younger sister, shows a smack of fear for her stepmother. On their first night, Su-yeon sneaks in Su-mi’s room confessing there is someone in her room and Su-mi sees a ghost of her late mother who hung herself in Su-yeon’s closet. Strange things begin to happen since then; a ghost haunts the house and stepmother’s birds are poisoned to death. Assuming Su-yeon is behind the inauspicious incidents, the stepmother locks her in the closet, and when Su-mi learns about the cruel punishment, conflict between the stepmother and two sisters gets bitter than ever. The Brave Archer, directed by the legendary Cheng Cheh, is on the list of top 10 martial arts hits of 1977 based on Jin Yong’s classic martial arts novel The Eagle-Shooting Heroes, of which Wong Kar Wai’s Ashes of Time is loosely based on. This particular version used the material written by Jin Yong’s good friend and fellow novelist Ni Kuang while Jin was away, back when the story was published as a newspaper serial. (more…)
