Bruce Lee died during the making of Game of Death. He completed all of the fight scenes, which include some of the best of his film career, but elsewhere in the film his place is taken by a dubious character in big sunglasses. Ignore this, though - it’s a good kung fu movie; a fitting tribute to the master of the genre. (more…)
The Brave Archer, directed by the legendary Cheng Cheh, is on the list of top 10 martial arts hits of 1977 based on Jin Yong’s classic martial arts novel The Eagle-Shooting Heroes, of which Wong Kar Wai’s Ashes of Time is loosely based on. This particular version used the material written by Jin Yong’s good friend and fellow novelist Ni Kuang while Jin was away, back when the story was published as a newspaper serial. (more…)
